About Gold Coast 2018

Background

Gold Coast 2018 will be the 21st edition of the Commonwealth Games which is held every four years, with the first taking place in Hamilton, Canada in 1930 (then known as the British Empire Games).

This will be the fifth time Australia will host the Commonwealth Games which is more than any other nation. Previous Games to have taken place in Australia have been Sydney 1938, Perth 1962, Brisbane 1982 and most recently Melbourne 2006.

The Gold Coast will welcome over 6,600 athletes and team officials from 70 different nations and territories for eleven days of high quality competition over eighteen different sports and seven different para-sports.

For the first time ever, these Games will have an equal number of medal events for both men and women.

Venues

Seventeen different venues will feature at the Gold Coast 2018, with the netball action taking place at the Gold Coast Convention and Exhibition Centre and the Coomera Indoor Sports Centre. The medal matches will take place in the Coomera Indoor Sports Centre.
