Netball Europe Open – Results

England Roses successfully defended the Netball Europe Open Championships at the weekend. Here are the full results and standings.

Cardiff welcomed England, Northern Ireland, Scotland and international guests Fiji for the 2017 Netball Europe Open. Hosts Wales completed the field.

Fiji and Scotland opened the tournament in which the Thistles emerged victorious with a 52-34 win. Later that day hosts Wales took to the court to face Northern Ireland. The home crowd was left stunned when Northern Ireland took the win by a one goal margin.

Day two saw England take to the court for their first of two games that they had to play. The Roses were up against Scotland who wanted to build on their impressive win against Fiji. Scotland was unable to do this as the Roses started their title defense with a 61-48 win.

The second game of the day saw the two sides who both lost on day one. Wales have recently leapfrogged Fiji in the INF World Rankings and they beat them here 61-40. Fiji were in action again later that day to close day 2 with a showdown against England. The Roses went on a goal spree and saw off the Pearls by 94-31.

The final day started off with an extremely close game between Scotland and Northern Ireland. Both sides had two wins to their name coming into the last game and it was Northern Ireland who made it a third as they beat the Thistles 46-45.

Wales were the only side that could prevent England from getting a clean sweep of victories. The Roses stood firm though and beat the hosts 72-50 to once again become Netball Europe Open Champions.
