Netball Jamaica expand Local Leagues to attract more Coaches

The President of Netball Jamaica Dr Paula Daley-Morris says her association is planning to expand their local leagues in order to attract a lot more coaches to the game.

“In order to broaden the base of coaches that we have, we are going islandwide with the leagues,” said Daley-Morris.

“Most of these coaches that we have come out of either the schoolgirl leagues or the club leagues that we run in Kingston and St Andrew, but with the all-island leagues, we will get to see all the talents and we will get to provide resources to all the parishes,” she said.

Daley-Morris added that Netball Jamaica will be conducting a Level One coaching certification next month at the University of Technology, in order to get a lot more local coaches qualified.

“We have been running this level one course for a while, but people are having a difficulty travelling from the far west of the island to come and do these courses,” said Dr Paula Daley-Morris.

“So when we centralise and have our leagues out there, it means that we can centralise the coaching courses that we are running that people can have access to it,” Daley-Morris.

She noted that her association is also planning to train more umpires and get more netball officials certified, which will help to improve the standard of the game.

“We are looking to train far more people in terms of not only coaching but umpiring and other areas of officiating,” Daley-Morris added.
