The Australian Diamonds retain their Quad Series title

The Netball Quad Series came to a dramatic conclusion at the weekend with the Australia Diamonds retain their Quad Series Title.

Australia came back from a 2 goal deficit at Three Quarter time to beat the England Roses by just 1 goal, 47 – 46. Aussie coach Lisa Alexander said that such close calls only serve to make the international side of the game more interesting for fans.

“Sometime you have to win ugly,” Alexander said after the 47-46 win which saw Australia defend their Quad Series title following victories against the Silver Ferns, South Africa and most recently England.

“It wasn’t pretty. But we managed to find a way. They hung tough. It’s great to see this uncertainty in netball. It makes things more interesting.”

The English Roses played on home soil to a packed crowd, the game was also broadcast over multiple stations – most notably the BBC. Catch up on BBC iPlayer.

Convincing wins from the New Zealand Silver Ferns over England and South Africa saw them take the runner up position after narrowly missing out on the victory over Australia 57 – 50.

Norma Plummer’s SPAR Proteas were credited throughout the series on a vast improvement and for taking England to extra time in their first match. They missed out on a win against the Roses but were able to push the Diamonds before losing to a strong Silver Ferns side.
