Wilson named 2016 Junior Maori Sportswoman

Silver Ferns shooter Maia Wilson has capped off a big 2016, named Junior Maori Sportswoman at the Maori Sports Awards.

Wilson made her Silver Ferns debut during the New World Netball Series for the Taini Jamison Trophy in September, and with it became the 163rd player to wear the Black Dress.

Unable to make the awards ceremony due to NZ U21 commitments, her mum accepted the award on her behalf.

Wilson took the court in two Tests for the Silver Ferns – both times against the Jamaican Sunshine Girls.

She was a member of the Central Pulse in the former trans-Tasman Netball League in 2016. In 2017 she will line-up with new Club, the Northern Stars, in the ANZ Premiership – New Zealand’s new elite Netball league.

Wilson was a member of the victorious FAST5 Ferns team and was recently selected in the 2017 Silver Ferns squad. She is also in line to be selected in the NZ U21 squad for Netball World Youth Cup Gaborone 2017.
