Singapore’s National Netballers end their tour of the Cook Islands on a high

Thursday 21st November….Singapore ended their three match test series against the Cook Islands on a high today, recording a 43-41 victory over a team currently ranked 15th in the world (Singapore ranked 21st).

Their fantastic win at the Telcom Sports Arena in Rarotonga came after two tough matches earlier this week where they lost out 50-58 and 38-51 respectively.

The Tour was planned as the team’s final preparations ahead of the Nations Cup which takes place from 1-7 December at Toa Payoh Sports Hall.

Olivia Flanagan and Kwok Shuyi received their first caps for Singapore during the tour and they are part of the 12-player team that will line up against Sri Lanka, Uganda, United States, Papua New Guinea and the Republic or Ireland in two weeks time.

National Coach and Technical Director Ruth Aitken said, “We were expecting a strong hit out against the 15th ranked team in the world on their home soil and they certainly didn’t disappoint.

This was an important series for Singapore to test themselves internationally before competing at home in the Nations Cup next month.

This trip gave us a valuable opportunity to train and play together over a concentrated period of time and we are delighted to have finished today with a win against some very strong opposition.”
