The INF are pleased to give recognition to Marion Johnson-Hurley for umpiring 100 International Senior Ranking Netball matches.
Marion was awarded with an INF certificate and appreciation plaque by the INF Regional Officiating Coordinator (ROC) Americas, Carmeta Douglin, while at the Americas Netball World Cup 2019 Qualifiers.
Mrs Marion Johnson-Hurley received her secondary education at the Parkinson Memorial School, an Associate Degree in Physical Education at the Barbados Community College and an Associate Degree in Education from the Erdiston Teacher’s Training College.
Marion represented Barbados in netball, 1981-1995 (14yrs) as well as played on the West Indies netball team. She also represented Barbados in Basketball, and played on the first national female football team. She received awards from the Barbados Association of Netball Umpires, the Barbados Amateur Basketball Association, Parkinson Memorial School and the Pinelands Community.
Marion Johnson-Hurley not only excelled as a player but has etched her name on the international scene as an umpire. She has been umpiring since the early 1980’s, attaining the Caribbean Netball Association’s Advance level certificate in 1990. In 1997 the International Federation conducted the first-ever Caribbean testing and Marion successfully passed the screening and testing in 1998 as an International Umpire, receiving the International Umpire’s Award (IUA) badge. She has been the lone IUA in Barbados for many years and is one of the longest serving IUA’s in the world, having represented Barbados as an international umpire from 1998 to February 2018 when she resigned as an umpire to focus on her duties as an umpire trainer.
Over the years Mrs. Johnson-Hurley has rendered service locally, regionally and internationally. As an international umpire she has flown the Barbados flag high in Australia, New Zealand, England, Singapore, Canada, Florida, Jamaica, St. Maarten, Trinidad & Tobago and many other Caribbean countries. She has umpired 103 senior international games and many more youth tournaments. The International Netball Federation (INF), the Americas Federation Netball Association (AFNA) and the Local Organizing Committee (LOC) congratulate Marion Johnson-Hurley on this magnificent achievement and wish her ongoing success in her future endeavors.
