South Africa, Wales, Malawi and Barbados all get their campaign underway on day two. Elsewhere New Zealand, Jamaica, England and Australia will be looking to build on their winning starts from day one.
Pool B – Wales v New Zealand – (1pm)
The first game of the day will see Wales get their Gold Coast 2018 campaign underway against New Zealand who were pushed hard on day one in their victory against Uganda.
This will be Julie Hoornweg first official game as Interim Head Coach for Wales following her appointment in February. Hoornweg will lead her side into her native of Australia and opening games don’t come much tougher than the Silver Ferns.
Seven members of the squad were present at Glasgow 2014, including captain Suzy Drane, who will be making her third Commonwealth Games appearance.
The last time this fixture took place at the Commonwealth Games was sixteen years ago at Manchester 2002.
Pool A – South Africa v Jamaica – (3pm)
Two Commonwealth Games ever presents meet in the second game of day two. Both South Africa and Jamaica have been present at every netball competition held at the Commonwealth Games, but this will only be the second time the sides will meet at the Games. Their only prior encounter on the Commonwealth Stage was during Manchester 2002, in which the Sunshine Girls were 66-55 victors.
Both sides have been in good form as of late. South Africa impressed during January’s Quad Series and Jamaica have won their last six games. With Jamaica (4) sitting just above South Africa (5) in the INF World Rankings, this will be an intriguing encounter.
Pool B – Malawi v England – (6:30pm)
Malawi get going on the Gold Coast against England who defeated Scotland on day one. Mwai Kumwenda was the top goal scorer in Glasgow 2014 and will have the opportunity to open her Gold Coast 2018 account in this one.
Fellow goal shooter Joyce Mvula, who was the Flag Bearer for Team Malawi, will also have the opportunity to get some goals under her belt. Joyce plays her club netball in England and will be up against some familiar opposition.
For the Roses, Jo Harten will be looking to add to her 40 goals in which she scored on day one. Serena Guthrie left the game against Scotland on crutches and may be unavailable for this one.
Pool A – Barbados v Australia – (8:30pm)
Day two concludes with the Bajan Gems taking on the Australian Diamonds. This fixture has taken place at all but one Commonwealth Games with the Diamonds being successful each time.
Gems Vice Captain, Latonia Blackman will make her fifth appearance at a Commonwealth Games should she feature in this match.
The Diamonds impressed on day one, scoring 94 passed Northern Ireland with the two Caitlin’s, Bassett and Thwaites, putting on a clinic in the goal circle.
