NetGO Programme launched in Fiji

Over 80 participants took part in the successful launch of the first NetGO Programme in the Pacific.

Teachers, coaches and volunteers were provided with new netball knowledge to share with the community as part of the NetGo Programme.

This new programme, set up by Netball New Zealand, aims to tackle a range of subjects such as promoting a healthy lifestyle, increase participation levels and eventually leave the countries with a self-sustaining system. Netball New Zealand will work with and deliver this programme in Fiji, Tonga, Samoa and the Cook Islands. More information on the programme found here.

Fiji is the first country that the programme has been launched in and Silver Ferns legend, Irene van Dyk, has been in Suva for the launch in which the feedback has been positive. Van Dyk is the Netball New Zealand ambassador as well as Junior Development Officer and she delivered the first training session in November.

Netball New Zealand staff members Tania Karauria and Nic Jones, delivered the first Oceania Foundation Coach Accreditation Workshop which was focused on educating teachers and volunteers with fundamental skills for coaching Netball.

Over 80 teachers were engaged in the workshop activities and provided participants with educational netball resources from which they can build future coaching sessions within their teams.

In the New Year, a kit containing Netball gear will be delivered to each school of the participating teachers in both programmes to help them deliver their learnings to students.
