Wales win Wendy White Series

Wales defeated Samoa in two test matches in Cardiff, to win the Wendy White Series.

Wales 72 – 46 Samoa

The first game of the series took place on Tuesday (5th) and was the first meeting between the sides on Welsh soil. Samoa made the trip from Scotland where they had played two matches over the weekend.

Samoa did take the early lead in the first quarter, but the home side responded with a flurry of goals courtesy of shooter Georgia Rowe. The first quarter finished 17-10. The second quarter had a similar pattern, with both sides exchanging goals. The Welsh yet again peeled off before half time and went into the break leading 34-21.

Eleanor Roberts made her Wales debut in the second half, and added to Wales’s tally. The third quarter finished 56-34 and both head coaches made multiple changes in the final quarter. Wales saw out the win, 72-46.

Wales 71 – 45 Samoa

Match number two took place two nights later and almost threw up an identical scoreline to the first match. The first quarter started with both sides matching each other in the final third but finished 18-11 to Wales.

The Welsh went on to further extend their goal tally by 20 goals in the second quarter, and they took a 38-24 lead into half time.  Wales started the third quarter well once again, and kept increasing the margin. The margin proved to be too much for Samoa and Wales saw out the victory to win the Wendy White Series 2-0.
